Covington & Beyond

Covington is a charming southern city located on the “Northshore” of Lake Pontchartrain. A relaxing 45 minute drive north of New Orleans, across the world’s longest bridge over a body of water, the Lake Pontchartrain Causeway, will bring you to a community featured on the National Register of Historic Places. Stroll the streets of Covington’s historic downtown district to discover art galleries, boutiques, antique shops, restaurants, and nightlife. The Covington Trailhead Museum & HJ Smith’s Hardware Store offer a glimpse back in time when the unique design of city block centers were used by farmers to shelter ox teams and wagons, leading them to be called “Ox lots” today. Enjoy annual festivals, free concerts, local art walks, and parades throughout the year. Bicycle rentals are available to ride along the state’s first Rails-to-Trails Conservancy bike & hike path, the 31-mile-long Tammany Trace.

Louisiana’s Northshore boasts a beautiful stretch of waterfront communities. Once a getaway spot for wealthy 19th-century New Orleans residents who came to escape the heat & bustle of the city, St. Tammany Parish offers an amazing adventure in nature, flavor and history. From swamps to flowing rivers, to ancient live oak trees, the diverse landscape of the Northshore is definitely somewhere a place you will want to explore.

New Orleans is one of the world’s most fascinating cities. Steeped in a history of influences from Europe, the Caribbean and Africa, its unique melting pot of culture, food and music attract many visitors every year. Whether driving or flying through Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, don’t miss the opportunity to experience a city with an energy & personality like no other.
