Maritime Pilot Safety Systems – Ladder Safety & Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Ladder Safety and PPE examines current pilot ladder regulations and rigging configurations as well as provides an overview and a practical in-water application of pilot survival gear and equipment. Pilot survival gear and equipment training emphasizes the form, fit, and function of personal flotation devices, safety helmets, lighting and signaling considerations. The course will also conduct a review and test of the Ocean Signal RescueMe MOB1 AIS transmitter.

Maritime Pilot Safety Systems – Pilot Boat Crew Safety

The Pilot Crew Safety training program is designed to provide pilot-boat crews information and practical instruction on safe pilot boarding, pilot recovery, and pilot boat safety systems.

Curriculum includes:

  • Classroom, pilot boarding safety, pilot ladder assessment from the pilot boat
  • Person in the water (PIW) recovery and recovery systems
  • USCG Inspection Sheet, serviceability of equipment
  • Man-Overboard process, crew duties, crew communications, how to avoid known difficulties
  • Special fitted recovery equipment
  • Assessment of boat equipment
  • Underway drills for man overboard and personnel recovery
